The Acer Predator Helios 300 comes with a powerful Intel Core i7 processor. You have access to 6 CPU cores with this laptop, so you can expect it to do any of the computations you need to be done simultaneously. The more cores you have with a laptop, the better it will be for this.
This laptop also meets our minimum suggested system requirements for machine learning, with a 512GB SSD. This means you’ll have more than enough space to keep your data sets for your algorithms.
You shouldn’t experience any slowdowns while your machine learning algorithms run through your data sets thanks to the 16GB DDR4 RAM, and the GPU of the Helios 300 can handle just about anything you throw at it.
Fortunately, the Acer Predator Helios 300 can easily be upgraded by yourself, if you cannot afford a more powerful variant. You just have to simply unscrew the back panel and install the appropriate RAM and storage upgrades in their slots.

Don’t expect quality sound reproduction from the speakers of the Acer Predator Helios 300, especially when you’re using them at max volume. The sound is quite tinny and uncomfortable to listen to. What impresses us the most with the MSI GL65 Leopard is its top-notch performance. This comes with no surprise with its 10th Gen Intel Core i7 processor. Simultaneous computing goes smoothly with the 6-core processor, which can go up to speeds of 5.0GHz.
You have your 512GB SSD, which has more than enough space and speed for your datasets. While this reaches our recommended minimum requirement, you can easily upgrade it with any 2.5-inch SSD or HDD for additional storage.
While 16GB of RAM is more than enough for machine learning, you might be looking to upgrade. The MSI lets you upgrade its RAM capacity up to 64GB, which is much more suitable for machine learning and algorithm analysis.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 has 8GB of dedicated VRAM and can handle just about anything you throw at it. Given that it’s an RTX, it can handle your standard algorithmic load, so it’s a great choice for machine learning.

The trackpad of the MSI responds to touch very well and doesn’t require too much travel time to use. If you aren’t fond of the loud click noises the buttons make, you can easily shift to tapping on it to trigger the same function.
While some of the other laptops are slimmer than this, the MSI has narrow screen bezels, so you have a very wide viewing area. It’s still quite thin and portable, and despite keeping the black and red color scheme, its design has a more subdued gamer look.
The webcam is quite good, offering a 720p quality picture when used for video calls. You can also expect good quality sound output from the MSI, though this doesn’t replace a pair of quality earphones.
You don’t have the Windows key on the left side of the keyboard anymore, but you can easily open up the MSI Dragon Center from a button on the top right of the keyboard. This is what lets you swap its functionality with the Fn key on the right side of the keyboard instead.
We were quite impressed with the battery life of the MSI, being able to last up to 6 hours with moderate use. This will change, of course, as you use the device for dataset analyses, however, this is vastly more impressive than some of the other devices on this list.
The MSI can function as both a powerful professional workstation and a gaming system. It can handle most of the tasks you’ll be throwing at it for machine learning, however, it isn’t the best device we’ve found.
The only downsides we’ve found with the MSI is that it gets quite hot under extremely heavy loads, so it does get quite hot. With the amount of power the MSI is capable of, keeping your laptop cool is a must. Fortunately, the MSI also has a button next to its MSI Dragon Center which allows you to switch on the fans to their turbo speed, to maximize your cooling systems.
3. Acer Nitro 5 [Best Laptop on a Budget]
The Acer Nitro 5 stands to be our most affordable laptop on this list, with decent specs to get you started on machine learning even when on a budget.
This laptop has some fairly average specs, however, they reach our minimum system requirements for machine learning. The 9th Gen Intel Core i5 processor should be enough to handle much smaller and simpler datasets and makes this laptop a great contender for beginners on a budget.
Despite only being an Intel Core i5 laptop, the Acer Nitro 5 has a quad-core processor, which lets it handle a couple of simultaneous computations and analyses. The Acer Nitro 5 won’t have as much processing power as the other laptops here, so it might take a little longer to process large quantities of data.
The Acer Nitro 5 comes with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650, which can easily handle anything you throw at it. It has 4GB of dedicated VRAM, which makes taking on heavier datasets much easier for your device.
When you purchase the Acer Nitro 5, you can purchase them with different configurations as well, so if these beginner specs don’t impress, you can opt for a more powerful variant of this laptop.
The 256GB SSD doesn’t meet our recommendations for the minimum requirements, but it can easily be upgraded. The 8GB RAM card can be upgraded as well, so if you’re worried this device won’t last you long for machine learning, you can opt to upgrade for better specs.
Even if the Nitro 5 doesn’t offer as much power as the other laptops on this list, it’s still quite a powerful laptop. It comes with a fantastic cooling system called NitroSense which you can control yourself to regulate its temperature.
The dual-fan ventilation is great to keep this laptop cool, and the fans can easily be controlled by the CoolBoost feature of the Nitro 5. While you can still hear the fan spin with this laptop, it doesn’t sound as loud as the other laptops on this list.
The keyboard of the Acer is also comfortable. The buttons are easy to press down on, don’t require too much pressure to trigger, and are extremely responsive. You won’t experience any input lag, missed, or accidental presses.
The display is quite clear and has good color reproduction, so working on this laptop shouldn’t be too taxing on the eyes. The screen itself is quite bright, so working in brighter rooms are comfortable, however, some colors might appear dark.
Unfortunately, the Acer Nitro 5 pales in comparison to the rest of the laptops we’ve listed down on this list, however that is to be expected at its price point. That being said, it’s meant to be a great device for beginners or customers looking for a more budget-friendly laptop.
Both the screen of the Acer Nitro 5 are made of plastic, giving it a much flimsier feel to the build quality. The inch-thick plastic bezels around the display also take away from the laptop’s viewing area, as well as make it feel quite dated compared to the rest of the devices on this list.
The trackpad is also extremely poor, as it takes quite a bit of travel distance to use properly and isn’t as responsive. It’s also quite stiff, and you’d need to use quite a bit of pressure for it to register any clicks. You’re much better off using a mouse.

This laptop offers a lot of power considering its price point, as the octa-core processor makes simultaneous data analysis and processing go by much quicker. With speeds up to 4.3GHz, the CPU of the ASUS TUF should be able to handle large datasets with little to no problems.
Most notably, this laptop comes with a 1TB PCle NVMe SSD. This is the largest SSD storage capacity available with the laptops we’ve listed down. Having 16GB of RAM is great for machine learning, and the ASUS can be upgraded with no problem if you need more.
What makes the ASUS a great choice for users looking to make the most out of their money is that you can also upgrade both the RAM and storage capacity of this laptop. When looking into machine learning, it never hurts to have more storage and memory for quicker analysis.

You won’t be disappointed with the screen quality either. It comes with a 144Hz display, which means you won’t experience any on-screen lag whatsoever. The laptop also utilizes FreeSync to eliminate any screen tearing, giving you much smoother performance.
Brightness isn’t too much of a concern with this laptop, as working in a bright room won’t be uncomfortable. The ASUS makes use of Vari-Bright, which limits the brightness of the screen when unplugged, but this can be disabled so you can make the most out of your screen.
The trackpad of the ASUS has its own dedicated L and R buttons, rather than the usual all-in-one trackpad design most other laptops have nowadays, though it’s nothing spectacular to write home about.
The keyboard solidifies the gamer feel to the laptop but is also extremely comfortable to use. The RGB backlight can be turned on when needed, and if you aren’t a fan, then you can toggle them off too.
One of the biggest drawbacks to the ASUS TUF is that the fans are quite loud. Working with a lot of data and large datasets can easily overload your laptop, so the fan often kicks itself into overdrive. It’s not pleasant, and it can easily become a distraction to users.
Under much heavier loads, the ASUS can also rise to some uncomfortable temperatures. Fortunately, they never go above 95C, but this temperature is still quite alarming. There is a workaround, by setting your max processor limit to 99% to drop it down by 10-20C, but this still reflects poorly on the thermals of the ASUS.

The keyboard is extremely comfortable to use. Because it’s quite shallow, you’d expect it to be a little difficult to use, but the keys are quite bouncy and don’t require too much force to push down on a key, so you won’t be making a lot of mistakes with the keyboard.
Despite being a gaming laptop, the Razer Blade 15 doesn’t look like it was made for gamers. With a sleeker aluminum build, Razer opted to give this laptop a sleeker, more minimalist design, which professionals will love.
The Razer is a laptop that has a fairly decent battery life for a gaming laptop. Using less intensive tasks like browsing the internet or watching movies will give you about 5 or 6 hours of battery, but you won’t get anything more than 3 hours with anything heavier. Fortunately, the Razer is quite quick to charge, so battery life isn’t too big of an issue.
The fantastic screen has a very slight, and almost unnoticeable issue with backlight bleed. While it isn’t evident with average screens, if your programs are set to use a dark tone, you might notice this and find it distracting.
Running dataset analysis is bound to use a lot of power from your laptop, which often kicks the CPU into overdrive. Once your thermals begin to heat up, the fans start, and it sounds similar to a jet plane taking off.
The very noticeable logo on the back takes away from the sleek and minimal design of the Razer Blade 15, and some professionals find this more distracting than anything. Luckily, you can cover it up quite easily with a skin.
